Technologies for Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Resilience:

🗓 Date: November 5–6, 2026

📍 Location: CERN

🌍 Time Zone: Europe/Zurich (Central European Time, CET

📍Registration

The Challenge: Developing countries face unique challenges in responding to the increasing frequency and severity of natural and climate-related disasters. At the same time, these challenges present opportunities for innovative, affordable, and scalable solutions in sustainable technologies, disaster preparedness, and resilience.

Workshop Goals: Building on the success of the event held in collaboration with Osaka University under the umbrella of the 2025 World Expo, the IEEE Future Directions SusTechInnovation, Engagement and Collaboration Committee (SusTech-IEC), IEEE NPS Society, United People Global, CERN IdeaSquare, and partner organizations, are convening in Geneva to identify critical technological, organizational, and societal gaps where sustainable technologies can deliver meaningful impact.

Electrification, decarbonization, and resilience goals for 2030–2050 require firm, low‑carbon power and high‑temperature heat that complement renewables and modern grids. Nuclear technologies—including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Microreactors (MMRs), to fusion R&D and advanced fuel cycles—are re‑emerging as practical tools for clean electricity, process heat, desalination, hydrogen production and energy storage. In parallel, nuclear‑enabled technologies continue to transform medicine, sensing, and materials science. Read More
